Yes, we did have a not so Brief Chat with Kara Goucher just before she ran her first race since giving birth, last Sunday's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Half Marathon, in which she placed second in 1:14:02, and you can read that one here. But quite a bit has happened to the 2007 World Championships 10,000-meter bronze medalist and 2008 U.S. Olympian since then, including that Arizona race, an illness suffered by her infant son Colt (a staph infection in a lymph node, requiring hospitalization), and now the announcement that she will be in the NYC Half-Marathon on March 20. Goucher, the University of Colorado graduate who is now coached in Oregon by Alberto Salazar, was third in the 2008 ING New York City Marathon in an American debut record of 2:25:53 and was third again at the 2009 Boston Marathon. She and Salazar spoke on Wednesday in a teleconference arranged by the New York Road Runners.

Goucher's opening statement: "I'm really excited to come to New York in March.  I've missed racing, and I've missed (New York). I'm definitely not ready to come run the Millrose Games, so this is a great opportunity to come back to the place I love to race in. It really is the perfect race to finally do my final preparations for Boston, and I just couldn't be more excited to be coming back to New York.
