Dwain Chambers cleared to run in Europe’s big-money Diamond League meetings

Britain’s Dwain Chambers has been cleared to run in Europe’s big-money Diamond League meetings following a decision by the continent’s leading promoters to drop their recommendation not to invite former drug cheats.

But the Londoner will remain excluded from invitation meetings in Britain because UK Athletics operates its own independent ban on athletes guilty of serious doping offences.

The decision by Euromeetings, the umbrella body for Europe’s main athletics meets, follows a court ruling in Switzerland last month forcing the Lausanne Diamond League meeting to invite French 1500 metres runner Hind Dehiba to run at its June 30 event.

The athlete, who was suspended for two years in 2007 after testing positive for EPO, argued that barring her from competing was a restraint of trade. She has threatened to sue meetings that have excluded her in the past.
