(08-Jan) -- Several event organizers released important news this morning, including the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix (Boston,Feb. 8), Ottawa Marathon (May 25,), and Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run (Washington, D.C., April 6).

The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix announced that teen sensation Mary Cain (Nike) will have another chance to add to her list of American junior records, this time in the 2000m.  The 17-year-old from Bronxville, N.Y., is coming off of a sensational 2013 season where she broke eight high school or USA junior records, and went on to finish 10th at the IAAF World Championships in the 1500m.  Cain, who is coached by Alberto Salazar, turned professional late last year.  She is finishing her last year of high school.

The Boston meet also announced that Olympic medalists Nick Willis (adidas) of New Zealand and Leo Manzano (unattached) of Austin, Texas, would compete in the men's mile, and 2013 world championships 5000m silver medalist Hagos Gebrhiwet (adidas) would return to defend his 3000m title.  At last year's meeting, Gebrhiwet set a new world junior record of 7:32.87.

Organizers of the Ottawa Marathon announced that 2012 Boston Marathon Champion Wesley Korir (Nike) would run their race for the first time.  Korir, 31, who was elected to the Kenyan parliament last year and is married to a Canadian, has a personal best time of 2:06:13.  He is coming off of a disappointing finish at last November's TCS New York City Marathon where he finished 9th in cold and windy conditions.

"Canada has been my training base and my second home for the last couple of years," Korir said through a prepared statement.  "Having this opportunity to compete on Canadian soil is what I have been longing for. My goal in Ottawa is to win."

Organizers of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run and USA Track & Field (USATF) announced today that the race will host both the USA men's and women's 10-mile championships.  The race hosted the women's championship last year, the first time the event had held a national championship.

"“Last year was our first to host a USA 10 mile championship event,"” said longtime event director Phil Stewart through a news release.  "The additional excitement of having a strong American presence made us want to do it again. Thanks to the tremendous support of America'’s Credit Unions, we are looking forward hosting both the men’s and women’s USA 10 Mile Championship events this year.”"

Stewart's event, which uses an early start for the elite women, is offering $80,000 in prize money and bonuses.  Over 26,000 runners have submitted applications to participate in the event, one of the most scenic in all of urban road racing.

Finally, the entry process for the More Magazine|Fitness Magazine Women's Half-Marathon, the largest half marathon in the United States exclusively for women, opened today at nyrr.org.  The race takes place on Sunday, April 13.  Last year's event, which was won by Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor in a course record 1:13:25, had 7550 official finishers.
