Kim Collins, James Dasaolu and Verena Sailer Sprint For Victory

Press Release

Duesseldorf, 8 January 2015 - The track and field fans may look forward once again to thrilling sprint races as well as new meeting records and season’s World best performances at the 10th edition of the “PSD Bank Meeting” at the Athletics Hall at Arena Sportpark in Duesseldorf on January 29. 2015.
In the men’s 60 metres event crowd favourite Kim Collins, the 2003 100m World champion from Saint Kitts and Nevis, will meet American Michael Rodgers, the 2010 World indoors runner-up, competing for the fourth time in Duesseldorf. Britain’s 27-year-old James Dasaolu, who won last year’s European gold in the 100m clocking 10.06sec in Zurich, heads the contenders trying to grab victory from the duo from overseas. The Duesseldorf meeting record of 6.50sec, set last year by Cuban Yuniel Perez, could well be wiped out on January 29.
The German fans may particularly look forward to Julian Reus. The 26-year-old improved the age-old national record of Frank Emmelmann, set in 1985, by one hundredth of a second to 10.05sec in the semi-finals of the 2014 national championships in Ulm. Meeting Director Marc Osenberg is certain: “It will be a thrilling and interesting race. With Kim Collins and Michael Rodgers we have two absolute top athletes and Duesseldorf regulars competing. And you don’t get to watch a reigning European champion such as James Dasaolu every day. From a national point of view Julian Reus is the icing on the cake.”
The women’s 60 metres also promise fast times: Among others, Great Britain’s Asha Philip, fourth at the 2014 World Indoor Championships, will meet seventh-placed Gloria Asumnu of Nigeria, and 22-year-old Swiss Mujinga Kambundji. The newcomer finished fourth in the 100m and fifth in the 200m at the 2014 European Championships at home in Zurich.
Verena Sailer will attract the German attention. The 29-year-old 100m European champion of 2010 was one of the altogether five German winners at the 9th “PSD Bank Meeting” last year when she clocked 7.19sec in the 60m, watched by a sell-out crowd of 2,000 at the Athletics Hall at Arena Sportpark in Duesseldorf.
