2x Olympian Nick Symmonds Auctions Olympic Spikes for Charity

Following his successful eBay experience of January 2012, two time Olympic athlete Nick Symmonds has created another auction. Though he is not selling his shoulder this time, he has listed something potentially more valuable: his shoes. In an effort to raise money for one of his favorite charities, the Smile Train, Nick is giving the shoes he raced in during the 2008 season to the highest bidder. The men's 800m was one of the shinning moments of the 2008 Olympic Trials and has been said by many to be one of the most exciting races in Olympic Trials history. Nick was the winner of that event with a time of 1:44.10, earning him a spot on the 2008 Olympic Team. As Nick writes in the auction summary, "these shoes carried me to a win during the 2008 Olympic Trials...I liked these spikes so much that I continued to wear them during my competitions in Beijing. I still love these spikes, but they have sat in my closest for four years. It is time for them to be enjoyed by someone else and, in the process, change a child's life for the better." After only a few minutes the auction's reserve price of $250 had been reached. The auction is set to expire at 6:33 PM Pacific on October 21, 2012.
