Teams of runners to circumnavigate Mont Blanc in new ASICS race against nature

On June 21, the longest day of the year, two teams of trail runners will attempt to ‘Outrun the Sun’ as they race to circumnavigate Mont Blanc.

Starting at sunrise and finishing at sunset, the athletes will have exactly 15 hours, 41 minutes and 35 seconds to complete the challenge which covers over 162km of mountainous terrain and will see them climb a total of 9450m and pass through three countries – France, Italy and Switzerland.

France’s winner of the 2013 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc Xavier Thevenard and Britain’s 2006 triathlon world champion Tim Don are among the athletes set to take on the challenge, as the athletes will be divided into two teams – Team ‘Ultra-Trail’ and Team ‘Enduro’.

Thevenard will be joined by his compatriot Thomas Lorblanchet, the 2009 trail running world champion, on the ‘Ultra-Trail’ team, plus Sweden’s 100-mile world record holder Jonas Buud and Japan’s Kota Araki as the four men tackle between 28-46km each.

Don features on the ’Enduro’ team alongside Austrian ultra runner Christian Schiester, Spanish trail runner Genis Zapater, American trail runner Megan Kimmel, French athlete Sylvaine Cussot, German 1500m specialist Lukas Naegele and Belgium road runner Gert Theunis. Each of the seven athletes will run between 17-29km.
