SEATTLE - The theme of the weekend at the Dempsey Indoor may be focused on the miles, but on Friday distance runners were making history in a variety of other events at the UW Indoor Preview.

One of the highlights for the host school came in the men's 800 meters, where senior transfers Kyle Reinheimer and Justin O'Toole pushed each other to a pair of NCAA-leading 1:46s.

Reinheimer, formerly of North Carolina, was able to outkick his new teammate and training partner, 1:46.45 to 1:46.59.

Neither racer had ever been undere 1:48 before in an indoor 800. O'Toole, a previous Ivy League champion for Columbia, owns an outdoor best of 1:47.84.

"Me and Justin have been working together all year, building off each other," Reinheimer said. "I executed well and felt like I had left in the tank at the end so it was pretty exciting."

It was a pretty exciting day for a bunch of athletes at Dempsey Indoor.

In the women's 1,000 meters, where Sinclaire Johnson of Nike ran the second-fastest time ever on an oversized indoor track when she won in 2:35.11. In second, former Oklahoma State standout Gabija Galvydyte of the Bowerman Track Club ran 2:35.70.

And in third, Portland's Laura Pellicoro ran faster than Danae Rivers' collegiate record when she crossed in 2:37.04.

In the women's 600, Stanford junior Roisin Willis made a splashy 2025 debut with 1:25.74. Her time trails only Britton Wilson of Arkansas, who ran 1:25.16 in 2023. also smashed a Dempsey facility record owned by Raeyvn Rogers

In the men's 3,000 meters, Stanford duo Thomas Boyd and Cole Sprout topped 79 finishers in six heats. Boyd ran the No. 7 time on the NCAA list with 7:41.85 and Sprout was next with the No. 8 time, 7:45.24.

Later on, high school runners Tayvon Kitchen from Crater OR and Owen Powell from Mercer Island WA went gunning for a sub-8 minute time in the 3,000 and came close.

Kitchen won the heat in 8:02.02 to move to No. 5 on the all-time prep list for 3,000 meters indoors and Powell elevated to No. 6 with his 8:04.83 for third place.

Claire Yerby of Washington won the women's 800 meters in 2:06.45, good for No. 6 on the NCAA list.

Washington's Simon Park jumped a new personal best 17-7.25 (5.37m) to win the pole vault.
