On Saturday at the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe in Germany, Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba smashed the women's indoor 1,500m world record. The 22-year old Olympian triumphed over a solid field, winning by 13 seconds in 3:55.17. Dibaba's mark bested Russian Yelena Soboleva's 2006 mark of 3:58.28. Dibaba's performance lowered her former personal best of 3:57.77, set in China in May of 2012.

Dibaba is the reigning indoor world champion over 1,500m and is the younger sister of three-time Olympic gold medalist Tirunesh Dibaba and Olympic silver medalist Ejegayehu Dibaba.
