Wambui is Focusing on 800m Success This YearPublished by allAfrica.com on January 5, 2014 After a successful 2014, IAAF 800m race world junior champion Margaret Nyairera Wambui is hopeful this year will be no different. Wambui, who won a gold medal with a personal best of 2:00.9 in Eugene, Oregon in the United States last year in July and went ahead to win 800m and 400m races respectively, during the Brookside East Africa Secondary School Games that was held in in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, noted that she will be out to improve on the time. "During the East Africa Secondary School Games in Dar es Salaam last year, I posted 2:07.0. I want to improve on the time by the time the Term Two "B" games come calling," Wambui said. She added: "Under the stewardship of my coach Kariuki Gikonyo, I believe the objective is attainable." Wambui, now a form four student at Tetu High School says she wants to specialise in the 800m "As much as I know I can do well in the short races, I want to cut my niche in the 800m race. "I am aware our country has the best runners in this category but then again, I believe I hold the future," said Wambui who went on to add "As we speak right now, we have a pool of great runners in this race.
