The
2016 Olympic Games will be held either in Madrid or Rio De Janeiro as
Chicago and Tokyo were eliminated in the first two rounds of voting,
news services are reporting from Copenhagen.
The Washington Post
called Chicago's elimination in the first round "shocking," coming just
a few hours after President Obama made a personal pitch for the Games
for his adopted hometown. The Post reported that there were "audible
gasps" from the International Olympic Committee meeting when Chicago's
elimination was announced.
Tokyo was eliminated in the second
round, setting the stage for a final round vote between four-time
bidder Madrid and newcomer Rio. The Olympics were held in Spain in
1992 in Barcelona, but have never been held in South America.
