David Rudisha to compete at Sainsbury s Birmingham Grand PrixPublished by
Diamond League event to form part of Olympic champion’s preparations for the World Championships in BeijingDavid Rudisha is to run at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on June 7 as he works towards August’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing. The 2012 Olympic 800m champion, who clocked 1:40.91 to break the world record when claiming gold in London, won the world title over two laps in 2011 but was forced to miss the 2013 event through injury. “I m very keen to return again to the World Championships this summer and the race in Birmingham will be an important part of my preparation for Beijing,” he said. June’s grand prix, which forms part of the Diamond League series, will be the 26-year-old’s second competition in Birmingham after he won the 600m at the same meeting last year in 1:13.71 for the fourth fastest time in history over the distance. “I love competing in the UK and I can t wait to line up at the Sainsbury s Birmingham Grand Prix,” commented Rudisha. “I have good memories of winning over 600m in Birmingham last summer and of course setting the world record at the London 2012 Olympics. “Hopefully I can repeat that sort of form against what I m sure will be a very strong field in June.” The post David Rudisha to compete at Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix appeared first on Athletics Weekly.
