London Olympic 1500m champion Asli Cakir Alptekin facing life ban after doping charge

Turkish middle-distance runner Asli Cakir Alptekin faces being stripped of her Olympic 1500 metres gold medal and banned for life after being charged with a doping offence.

The 27-year-old athlete, who led home a Turkish one-two in the Olympic final in London last summer, has been provisionally suspended after abnormalities were detected in her blood profile, which is monitored regularly under the athlete biological passport system to check for evidence of cheating.
