Top U.S. club teams head to Seattle for USATF National Club Cross Country Championships

SEATTLE – Defending individual champion Aaron Braun (Flagstaff, Ariz.) and the two-time men’s team titlists McMillan Elite (Flagstaff, Ariz.) will join more than 100 USATF club teams Saturday at the 2011 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships at Jefferson Park in Seattle, Wash. 

The 14th annual USATF National Club Cross Country Championships features America’s top post-collegiate club teams from across the United States vying for top honors and bragging rights as the nation's top cross country team. More than 1,100 competitors are entered in the event, which features a 10-kilometer men’s race and a 6-kilometer women’s race. Clubs will compete for a total prize purse of $30,000, with $25,000 going to the top open teams.
 
In the women’s team race, the Boulder Running Company/adidas will toe the line looking for their third team title but will face three-time team champion Boston Athletic Association, as well as teams from the New York Athletic Club and New Balance Silicon Valley. 
 
Contenders for the individual title will include Julie Culley of the New York Athletic Club, Sara Vaughn of the Bowerman Athletic Club and Neely Spence (Shippensburg, Pa.) and Brie Felnagle (Tacoma, Wash.) running unattached.

 
In the men’s race, McMillan Elite can expect to be challenged by the Central Oregon Running Klub, Boston Athletic Association and Asics Aggies.
 
The race for the individual title will feature defending champion Braun and McMillan Elite teammatesBrett Gotcher and Nick Arciniaga. Joining the race for individual honors will be Max King and Ryan Bak of the Central Oregon Running Klub; Phillip Reid and Sergio Reyes of the Asics Aggies;Jonathan Grey and Matt Llano of Team USA Minnesota; and local favorite Mike Sayenko of Club Northwest.  
 
Team champions will also be crowned in the masters divisions with Club Northwest set to defend their title in the women’s 40+ team division, and the Atlanta Track Club defending their 50+ title, while two-time team champion Impala Racing Team defends their title in the women’s 60+ team division.
 
Defending their men’s team titles will be the Compex Racing Team at 40+; Club Northwest at 50+ division; Boulder Road Runners at 60+ and San Diego Track Club in the 70+ division.
