Lowe Named USATF Athlete of the Week
Lowe Named USATF Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS - Chaunté Lowe has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting an American record of 2.02m/6-7.5 in the high jump as she won the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Lowe’s leap improved Tisha Waller’s previous indoor American record of 2.01m/6-7 that had been on the record books since 1998. Lowe also owns the outdoor record which she set at the 2010 USA Outdoor Championships in 2.05m/6-8.75.
In addition to winning her sixth national title, Lowe also won the Visa Championship Series prize of $25,000 for the best performance of the indoor season.
Now in its eleventh year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on www.usatf.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
