LONDON -- Desiree Davila of Rochester Hills will not compete Aug. 5 in the Olympic women's marathon because of her hip flexor injury.
Kevin Hanson, who coaches the U.S. Olympic trials runner up with his brother, Keith, made the announcement in an email sent to the Detroit Free Press this afternoon. The Hanson brothers are part of a team of contributors who are writing postcards of their Olympic experiences at the Summer Games.
Update: Here's a statement from Hanson-Brooks facebook page:
Sorry for the misunderstanding earlier. Desi was frustrated with the fact that she is a long way from 100% both fitness wise and
health. She had decided that it was probably best to pull out of the Marathon. After discussing her options with the Olympic coaches and
medical staff, they convinced her that she deserves the entire experience and that means giving herself every chance to make it
to the starting line.
