Prizes for BMC winners on offer at London’s first annual international mile event

The inaugural Amba Hotels City of London Mile on June 22 is to include three British Milers Club (BMC) races which organisers say forms part of their pledge to cultivate home-grown athletic talent.

The City of London Mile event, which earlier this year became one of London Athletics approved events and boasts 2011 world 1500m silver medallist Hannah England among its supporters, takes participants on a historic route taking in Mansion House, the Bank of England, Guildhall and St Mary-le-Bow Church, as well as part of the London Olympic marathon course.

Held for the first time in the year which marks 60 years since Sir Roger Bannister ran the world s first sub-four-minute mile, the City of London Mile comprises five events: the Family Mile, Youth Mile, Corporate Mile, International Mile and the City of London Mile which is open to everyone.

On Friday organisers announced they have added three BMC races to the programme – two men s and one women s – with twenty BMC members to be invited to each race and prizes awarded in each.

The winner of the BMC ‘A race at the event will win entry into the International Mile at the 2015 Amba Hotels City of London Mile, while prize money will also be up for grabs for the top three athletes on the day.

The organisers are also giving the winner of the BMC s Anniversary Mile (male and female), which takes place in Watford on May 7 in honour of Bannister s sub 4 minute mile, a free elite entry in the International Mile for 2014, which includes accommodation in the elite athlete hotel on race weekend and free travel. This same prize will be on offer to the winners of the men s and women s Watford Grand Prix meeting ‘A’ 1500m races this summer. Winners must be a BMC member and of British nationality.

“The British Milers Club is delighted to be involved in the Amba Hotels City of London Mile,” commented BMC chairman Tim Brennan.

“It provides an exciting opportunity for BMC members to race in a wonderful setting in the heart of the City of London. We anticipate that we will see some very competitive racing from high quality fields over the iconic mile distance.”

Entry to the Amba Hotels City of London Mile is open at www.cityoflondonmile.co.uk.
