Central Park Track Club New Balance To Compete at World Relays

Press Relays - May 22, 2014

NEW YORK – Central Park Track Club New Balance will send three athletes to the inaugural IAAF World Relay Championships on May 24-25 in the Bahamas.

Leading CPTC New Balance will be Olympian Julius Mutekanga, who will race in the men’s 4 x 800m relay for Team Uganda. Mutekanga competed for Uganda at the London Olympics in the 800 meters and was a semi-finalist in that event at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2012. Mutekanga also competed at World Outdoor Championships in Daegu, Korea, in 2011.

Joining Mutekanga are teammates Lorain McKenzie and Ashley Kelly.

Lorain McKenzie will race on the 4 x 800m relay for Team Jamaica. This will be McKenzie’s first World Championship. Shortly after joining CPTC New Balance, McKenzie became the Bronze Medalist at last year’s Jamaica National Championships in the 800 meters.

Ashley Kelly will compete on the 4 x 100m relay for the British Virgin Islands’ Team. This will be Kelly’s second appearance at World Championships. In 2010, Kelly raced the 400 meters at World Junior Championships. Based on her season this year, Kelly has already been named to the British Virgin Islands’ Team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games to take place in Scotland in late July.

All three athletes train in New York City
