A look ahead to some of what’s in store at the Monaco leg of the Diamond League series

The final Diamond League meeting before the Commonwealth Games sees a number of Glasgow 2014 contenders in action.

Among those competing at the Herculis Meeting in Monaco on Friday is Jess Judd who ran a 1:59.77 personal best at the Oslo Diamond League in June and forms part of a competitive 800m field headed by Kenya’s world champion Eunice Sum. In the men s 800m, Judd’s fellow Brit Andrew Osagie faces a tremendous line-up that includes world record-holder David Rudisha and Nijel Amos, who claimed Olympic silver behind Rudisha in 2012, as well as the world indoor and outdoor champion Mohammed Aman.

The high jump again features a super-clash between big names Bohdan Bondarenko of Ukraine, Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Ivan Ukhov of Russia as six athletes who have cleared 2.40m or higher this year do battle.

In the 1500m we could see Hicham El Guerrouj s world record of 3:26.00 attacked by world champion Asbel Kiprop, with fellow sub-3:30 Kenyan Silas Kiplagat part of a strong field.

The women s 5000m includes world silver medallist Mercy Cherono and world indoor 3000m champ Genzebe Dibaba, while world champion Zuzana Hejnova makes a return to the track in the 400m hurdles and she takes on the likes of this season’s world leader Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica.

Olympic 200m champion Allyson Felix runs the 100m and is joined by fellow American Tori Bowie and Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Britain’s Conrad Williams joins world champion LaShawn Merritt in the 400m, while the men s sprint hurdles sees Olympic champion Aries Merritt back in action against Frenchman Pascal Martinot-Lagarde who won in Lausanne and then ran 13.05 behind Hansle Parchment’s 12.94 world lead in France.

The crowd might be less thrilled, however, to see Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay lining up again this time in a 200m field that includes Nickel Ashmeade and Christophe Lemaitre.

In the field events, Valerie Adams of New Zealand heads the shot put line-up, the world and Olympic champion having claimed her 52nd win in a row in Lucerne, while Caterine Ibarguen of Colombia is the woman to beat in the triple jump. Not many Brits are competing, but Chris Tomlinson is entered in the men s long jump.

The meeting then concludes with the 3000m steeplechase with Kenyans led by world leader Jairus Birech attacking the eight-minute barrier.

An event timetable and entry lists can be found here, while the action will be televised on BBC Three from 7pm for fans in the UK
