American sprinter Richard Browne cruised to T43/44 victory at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final on Sunday, though his win seemed to come at a price as he eased up as he approached the line and later held his back, explaining how he has been suffering an injury niggle.

His time of 11.01 was easily enough to secure him the win ahead of compatriot Jarryd Wallace with 11.32 and Felix Streng of Germany with 11.41, though, in a race missing Britain’s recently-crowned European champion Jonnie Peacock who was a late withdrawal through injury.

Hannah Cockroft was another to dominate her event, the Paralympic, world and European champion continuing her winning ways to secure a comfortable victory in the T34 100m with 19.04 as her fellow Briton Mel Nicholls finished third.

“It was nice out there,” said Cockroft. “I would like to say a big thank you to the crowd who stayed. It s fantastic to have a crowd supporting us and wanting to watch us compete. You want to love the sport but it s good when others can love it with you.”

Switzerland s Manuela Schar and her compatriot Marcel Hug – both fresh from claiming multiple medals at the IPC European Championships in Swansea – won the T53/54 1500m events, with Britain s Jade Jones and Sammi Kinghorn finishing third and fifth respectively behind Schar.

There was a photo finish in the women’s T43/44 100m as Netherland’s Marlou van Rhijn just grabbed victory on the line. British T44 sprinter Laura Sugar ran a British record of 13.55 in third.

“To get a massive PB and a national record after getting a PB in Swansea has been amazing,” said Sugar.

Her fellow Briton Sophie Hahn – fresh from claiming three European silver medals in the 100m, 400m and 4x100m relay in Swansea - finished third in a T37/38 400m won by Brazil’s Veronica Hipolita.

Dan Greaves and Aled Davies battled it out in the F42/44 discus, with Commonwealth and European F44 champion Greaves launching the implement to 60.01m in the final round to beat Davies by just 19 points.

“The season couldn t have gone any better for me two golds and PBs,” said Greaves. “Today I was up against the world record holder so it was a tough competition but the victory means a lot.”

Jo Butterfield, who won European club throw gold in Swansea, continued her winning ways with victory in the F32/51 competition.

Germany’s Vanessa Low leapt to a T42 world record distance of 4.60m in the combined T42/44 long jump competition as Britain’s Stef Reid jumped 5.26m to finish third on points.
