Marghieva extends Moldovan Hammer Throw record to 72.74m - IAAF

Chisinau, Moldova - Zalina Marghieva set a new Moldovan national record in the Hammer Throw at the national winter throws championships in Chisinau on Saturday (5).

Capping a consistent series (70.11m – 71.75m – x – 71.33m – 72.03m – 72.74m), Marghieva celebrated her 23rd birthday with a 72.74m throw Saturday, to defeat her older sister Marina, whose best effort was 71.54m (x -  70.06m – x – 71.54m – x– 70.70m). Last year Zalina and Marina finished fourth and fifth at the European Championships in Barcelona.

Their younger brother, Serghei Marghiev, won the junior competitions, reaching 75.53m, a national junior record.

Indoors, Ivan Emilianov displayed solid form in the Shot Put. The 33-year-old broke his own national record with a 20.31m effort in a series which also included two other throws beyond the 20-metre line: 20.09m and 20.14m. Vadim Hranovschii won the Discus Throw with 62.12m.

Another national record fell courtesy of Alexandr Cuharenco who leaped 7.97m indoors in the Long Jump. The experienced Vladimir Letnikov won the Triple Jump with a 16.71m best.
